He shows that the power of God sustains and controls the church. It is the Holy Spirit who is going to accomplish His will through the church. J. A. Bengel suggested that Acts could be named “The Acts of the Holy Spirit” (Gnomon of the NT, II, 512). A. T. Pierson named his commentary on Acts by that very title. Luke also has an evangelistic theme: the gospel message has the power to save all those who believe. Jew or Gentile, from slave or beggar to governor or king, the gospel is mighty to save.
